Georgetown, TX - Concerned about ever growing scarcity of clean drinking water in many areas, a small Texas organization named Free Water Corporation hopes to provide clean water to a thirsty world. Free Water Corporation plans to offer "free of charge" to families in need with the help of civic clubs, churches and generous individuals. Families whose names are submitted are placed on a waiting list by providing a brief description of their needs. Sponsors are sought and through the generosity of the adopting family, group or organization, clean drinking water is provided.
Although, solar distillers have been around for many years, very little effort has been expended in the mass production of small low-cost units. By mass producing the stilling basin using thermoformed food-grade ABS material a safe, stable and approved polymer, the company plans to provide affordable water distillers to all in need.
Free Water Corporation's solar water purifier cell still under development at the time of this article, uses solar energy to simply convert polluted waters into sanitary drinking water. The water cells, approximately 1.5 square meters, will collect approximately 1200 watts of solar energy that is used for the distillation process. The solar distillation cells can turn any salty or non-potable water into purified drinking water with an output of up to 3 gallons per day or approximately 1000 gallons of pure water per year.
The high temperature in the cell and the evaporation cycle breaks down water into its smallest molecules, eliminating bacteria, organisms, and minerals providing distilled quality water. Mineral supplements are recommended for consumption to slightly improve alkalinity.
The design also features a rain catcher lip so the unit serves a dual purpose for water needs. Approximately 8 gallons of water can be collected per inch of rain. This water can also be cycled through the distiller at a later date.
Remember, even though the world is almost covered in water, less than 1% is suitable for drinking.
